University of Puget Sound Ultimate Teams

The Postmen started from humble beginnings in the year 2004 when a little boy with a dream wanted to start a local micro financing bank with his friends in their beloved town of Tacoma, Washington. They soon realized this would be way too much work and quickly opted to just throw around a small piece of plastic instead. Celebrating its tenth anniversary during the 2014-2015 season, the Postmen are now entering their second decade of existence.

From humble beginnings, the Postmen rode to the D-III College Nationals for the first time in 2011. Traveling to the Mecca of the Midwest – Appleton, Wisconsin – in 2011, the team tied for third place at the D-III College Nationals. After a one-year hiatus, the Postmen returned to Appleton to avenge themselves where they fought their way into the finals. Once again, the title slipped through their hands. The year 2013 was no different. The Postmen, the brave Men of the West, placed second for the second year in a row.

After a brief foray into the D-1 Conference in 2013-2014, the Postmen went through a rebuilding process– traveling to villages far and wide looking for new recruits and pushing themselves as a team. Their efforts paid off and in spring 2018, the Postmen went to D-III College Nationals. They upset two teams, broke seed, and won the Spirit Award!

Even though the 2020 season was cut short, the Postmen found success going 11-2 on the season, winning PLU BBQ, and ending with a #3 ranking in the nation.

The team continues to become stronger and build on what the Postmen of the past started. With solid leadership and a coaching change, the future looks bright for the Postmen as they look to continue delivering seasons to rememeber.

The University of Puget Sound’s Ultimate Frisbee team for womxn, Clearcut, was founded in 2005 on pillars of spirit, competition, and Pacific Northwest magic! After several years playing at the Division 1 level, Clearcut has been competing in USA Ultimate’s Division 3 since its inception in 2010.

Through years of hard work and fun, Clearcut has grown into one of the dominant division 3 Ultimate programs in the country. We’re the 6-time Northwest Conference champions and have competed at D3 National Championships for the last five years, including triple 3rd-place finishes in 2016-2018. Clearcut players also boast numerous awards in recent years, including rookie of the year, breakout player of the year, defensive player of the year, all-Americans, and a coach of the year award. In 2019, we traveled to Nationals in College Station, Texas with a tough squad of 15 gals (missing lots of beloved players due to a conflict with graduation) and showed our grit to finish 5th place in the blistering heat. We finished the 2020 season ranked first in the country after blowing away the competition at the PLU BBQ and are itchin’ to get back on the field as soon as it’s safe!

Along with fierce competition, Clearcut values spirit, community, and fun. Our players come from all over the country; some have played Ultimate since middle school, while others found the sport as sophomores at UPS and quickly grew into formidable players. Still, when we come together (for a rainy Friday night practice, a delicious potluck brunch, or a super intense travel tournament) we are one loving Clearcut community, like an octopus with many unique and wonderful arms all working together.
